The Sound Collectors Lab
A modular studio-lab directed by Louise Devenish dedicated to the research, development and creation of new music, with a focus on the percussive arts, various keyboards and intermedial creative practices. We research and develop new modes of music creation, notation and presentation, apply them in collaborative performance works, and critically reflect on these practices and methodologies through public performances, recordings, talks and scholarly publications. Established in 2012, The Sound Collectors Lab evolved to current formation in 2020. Based at Monash University, the studio-lab expands to a wider group of creative collaborators including artists, artist-scholars and academics interested in interdisciplinary research-based artistic practice working across composition, sound design, performance, studio engineering, design and the visual arts. Current projects include a suite of post-instrumental works for percussion and electronics, and a collection of new repertoire for percussion and piano by Australian composers.
